Announcement time!

Introducing Ben Ruth and Dr. Simone Howman, the two main characters for a new webcomic endeavor called PhD Unknown!  Once again I'm pairing up with Dante Shepherd to bring some satisfying words-with-art action.  We're looking to release this at the end of April, so keep an eye out for more announcements!

Tyrion Lannister

This week I FINALLY committed myself to making a drawing for the weekly OzComics drawing challenge.  This weeks theme was Game of Thrones, so of course I'm going to draw my favoritest character ever!  Peter Dinklage's mug is so unique, I had a lot of fun getting the facial proportions to match.

 

I was also thinking of burning the edges of the paper for a more dramatic effect, but thought it might be a little too much.  What do you think?

Doodle Crossfade

One of my favorite parts of sketching is that often when an idea is finished, it is in a completely different place from where it started.  The pencil figures out where it wants to go, and the artist is just along for the ride.

This didn't start out as Sherlock with a tiny woman sprouting from his brain, but I'm pretty happy that that is what it turned into.

Just sketching random people at lunch seems so boring, I needed to add conflict somehow.

I've been bursting at the seams waiting to announce this one!

Ahh, Coffee in Annapolis is displaying a collection of my art for the month of March!

Here are the never before seen Fantasy Women that will be on display (and for sale!) alongside other original ink drawings.  When you go to see them in person, tell them Joan sent ya!

 

 

Fanart

Fanart!  Some people love it, some people hate it, and some people rely on it to get their grounding as an artist.  Usually I find myself avoiding other people's characters in my own art simply because of the scariness of legal retribution, but that's something I'll get into more at a later date.

Right now I just wanted to share some cute as heck chibi versions of characters from a show I enjoy maybe a little bit too much.

 

 

 

 

Monster Girls

Some of you guys may have seen the the 30 Day Monster Girl Challenge being passed around by artists online.  Being incapable of following rules, I have been working on monster girl inspired art, but it isn't going to be one every day, and I'm not going in order.  I might not even do all 30 pieces, but I wanted to use this as an excuse to do some watercolor work.  Here's the light pencil outlines that I'm going to be using as a guide later on.
